Jon Pardi may be spending a lot of his time on tour, but he's also spending it with his family. He stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to chat about life lately and his new album Honkytonk Hollywood.
Whenever Pardi isn't on the road, he spends time watching Beauty and The Beast with his daughter. She's become a huge cuddler and he admits she's opened up his heart more. He also spends time on his land, he really loves to split wood and get dirty. The main reason he is so adamant about chopping wood is because his wife likes bonfires, so he does it for her. As for his tour, Pardi believes all of his live shows have been full of energy lately. He's really proud of his tour openers and feels he has a good track record for bringing women of country out on the road and then they blow up. He's had Hailey Whitters, Lainey Wilson, and Ella Langley all open for him. He was just DMing Wilson the other day about being a badass on the cover of Rolling Stone. His current tour openers are Corey Kent and Kassi Ashton, and he's looking forward to having them out on the road. When they played Houston Rodeo, Pardi got to ride horses, but he admitted he brought his own saddle to ride them because it would have been hard for him to ride without his own stuff.
With his new album Honkytonk Hollywood, Pardi admitted he always feels it's time for another album although his goal is to put new music out every 18 months. However, that goal has been hard for him to accomplish with touring so much, that's why this album has taken him 3 years. The last song Pardi recorded for the album is "Rush" because he felt they needed something with tempo on the record. He tested "Rush" out on a boat, mowing, dancing, on an airplane, and really felt it was the vibe for everything. "Friday Night Heartbreaker" has a spicy feel to it, he wrote it with the thought of all the girls out there getting ready for a night out and they're probably going to break some hearts.
Music may be what Pardi pursued, but once upon a time he wanted to be a firefighter. At one point in his life, he had a lot of friends joining the fire academy in California because of all the wildfires that happen out there. However, when he was applying, he learned that he had to also be a paramedic to be a firefighter. He didn't consider himself a paramedic and wouldn't trust himself as one, so he decided not to do it.
Pardi also shared that he's had a lot of moments with fellow country artists and celebrities, but he doesn't save phone numbers because he doesn't want to drunk dial them sometime. Bobby Bones related because he didn't save Kenny Chesney's phone number in fear of being tempted to text him randomly. Pardi added that it's not just drunk him he's worried about, but even him on caffeine and getting a good idea, he'll text someone he doesn't know well like it's no big deal. Someone Pardi has looked up to for decades is Alan Jackson, he's one of Pardi's idols. One time Pardi got to tell Jackson that he's like Merle Haggard to him, and he thinks it really meant something to Jackson.
