During the fourth quarter of last night's Cleveland Browns pre-season win over the Washington Redskins, rookie Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi scored a touchdown on a punt return. The final minutes of meaningless pre-season games usually bring out guys nobody cares about or has heard of, but Sheehy-Guiseppi's teammates mobbed him after his score.
Sheehy-Giuseppi hadn't played organized football in two years after graduating from junior college and receiving no interest from any NCAA schools. He managed to sweet-talk his way into an NFL workout session in Miami, then ran 4.38-second 40-meter dash -- fast even by NFL standards. The Browns offered him a full tryout, but lacking the cash to afford a hotel, he slept outside or in a 24-hour gym for a week. His tryout went well enough that the Browns signed him and suited him up for last night's game.
