TMSG: Car Wash Worker Tracks Down Owner Of Stimulus Check Found In Garbage

Antonio Hernandez is an employee at North Carolina's Evans Street Car Wash. While at work, he found a $1,200 IRS stimulus check in the trash.

With the help of his daughter, Hernandez was able to track down the check's rightful owner. The check belonged to Charles Thompson, but unfortunately the address on the check turned out to be his former residence. Through some research, Hernandez daughter Michelle Alvarado found some contact information for Thompson, an army veteran.

Thompson told WITN-TV it was a miracle the check found its way back to him,

"From my old apartment, to the trash can, to a great person like Michelle Alvarado and her father finding it, and Michelle doing the leg work to find me, I mean, what else do you call that?"

He said the check will allow him to catch up on rent and get by while construction work remains inconsistent. Alvarado and her father were happy to help.

"It was very important for him to receive that check. Especially in these uncertain times, of course we would have given it to him, and we're very happy that he has the check now."
