We could see more developments this week... as several states pursue significant restrictions on abortion... following the lead of Alabama. Protesters rallied on Sunday against Alabama's abortion law, the strictest in the country, prohibiting nearly all abortions even in cases of rape and incest. 20-20 Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders held a rally in Birmingham Sunday... condemning the law. Several Republicans spoke out against the law, including Utah Senator Mitt Romney and President Trump. They both say exceptions should be made in cases of rape and incest.
Governor Phil Bryant says he supports the recent abortion laws passed in nearby states. In a statement issued last night, the governor's communications director said Bryant is proud and excited to see politicians foster a culture of life. Alabama's law is the strictest in the country, making it a felony for a doctor to provide an abortion during any stage of pregnancy including in cases of rape and incest. On Friday, Missouri banned abortions after eight weeks.

There are no laws on the books regarding food trucks in Ocean Springs, but that could change tomorrow night.City leaders in Ocean Springs will consider 7 pages of regulations…which would mean vendors have to get a permit from the Dept of Health, a valid business insurance policy, location approval from the city and local businesses…plus no alcohol or loud music allowed.
As for residents, the consensus seems to be…the more food trucks the better.

The newest judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals takes his oath of office for a second time today. Cory Wilson is a former state representative Governor Bryant picked to replace Kenneth Griffis who joined the State Supreme Court. Wilson was sworn in in February but will go through the ceremony again today during his investiture at the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson. He's a native of Moss Point who served previously in the State Treasurer and Secretary of State's offices.

The five best college baseball players in Mississippi will be in Jackson today. And one of them will leave with a trophy. Mississippi State's Jake Mangum and Ethan Small, Ole Miss' Grae Kessinger and Tyler Keenan and Southern Miss' Matt Wallner are the finalists for the C Spire Ferris Trophy to be presented during a luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Mangum got the most votes from fans which account for ten per cent of the total vote. Coaches and Major League scouts have the biggest say-so in who wins the award.

Drinking a lot of fruit juice could lead to premature death. That's according to a new study that looked at the health effects of sugary drinks. Researchers found that the drinks could increase the chances of early death from nine percent to 42 percent. The study looked at drinks like fruit juice and soda. The findings were published Friday in the journal "JAMA Network Open."
