Heads up if you live near the Gulfport Seabee Base.

Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport will be taking part in Citadel Shield/Solid Curtain 2019 (CS/SC19) Feb. 4-15, 2019, an annual, two-part anti-terrorism force protection conducted by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFFC) and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) on all U.S. Navy installations in the continental United States.

The base is scheduled to be on lockdown during the morning hours, approximately between 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Feb. 5, 2019, during part of this exercise. All gates on the base (Pass Road, 28 th Street, and Broad Avenue) will be closed during the lockdown, so people trying to enter or leave the base will be unable to do so during this timeframe.

The purpose of CS/SC19 is to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security personnel and better prepare Department of the Navy (DON) personnel for potential force protection situations. It also establishes a learning environment for security personnel to exercise functional plans and operational capabilities.Increased security measures can be anticipated at NCBC Gulfport and all other Navy installations for the duration of the exercise.

Security personnel participating in the exercise will be using simulated ammunition (or simunition) during the exercise, so people in the local area could hear what may sound like gunfire coming from the base that morning.

Please feel free to release this information as a public advisory so that local residents around the Naval Construction Battalion Center are aware of the exercise and the impact to traffic at and around the gates that morning.
