A suspect is in custody and a woman is recovering after being shot twice in the back at the home of Moss Point Alderman Floyd Downs yesterday.  Korey Williams is being charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.  Police say the alderman’s daughter had a relationship with the suspect, and they believe she was the intended target, but it was a friend of the family—Sharjah Price—that was hit.

The Bay St. Louis police chief is defending an officer's decision to shoot and kill a German Shepherd that charged at officers early Saturday night on Spanish Acers Drive. The single shot was fired after another dog that, along with the other one who was acting aggressively towards animals and residents, had been secured in a patrol car. While the chief says the action of the officer was justified, the owners of the dogs believe otherwise.

There's no confirmation yet on the identity of the pilot killed when the small plane he was flying crashed into trees, burst into flames and was demolished near Diamondhead Airport. The believed Cessna aircraft went down north of I-10 Friday morning, taking the life of a local man thought to be in his late 60s. Federal authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Turnout is expected to be low for tomorrow's runoff elections in Mississippi for two Capitol Hill seats. Michael Guest and Whit Hughes are vying to become the Republican nominee in the Third Congressional District seat. The top vote getter will face off against the Democratic nominee, Michael Evans. There's also the Democratic runoff between David Baria and Howard Sherman for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Roger Wicker.

Even though they came up short in Omaha, the Mississippi State baseball team got a warm welcome as it returned home to Starkville Sunday, knocked out of the College World Series by Oregon State. And now there's word that the Bulldogs will have a new head coach - Indiana's Chris Lemonis. Interim coach Gary Henderson had made it clear that he wanted to keep the job but reports say MSU is headed in a different direction. Lemonis led the Hoosiers to the NCAA tournament this season, losing in the Austin regional.
