The late 90's and early 2000s were my prime. It was a time when I didn't stress over bill payments and the only deadlines I needed to hit were for college papers. It was the time when I first felt that I wanted to do everything in my power to entertain the masses, and the guy in this video was one of the main reasons for that newly formed passion.
The cast of my favorite show, Saturday Night Live, was on fire. I remember watching this on Saturday nights with my parents, or girlfriends and laughing so hard that my sides hurt or tears were pouring down my face. I fell in love with Chris Kattan, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, and this guy, Will Ferrell. I wanted to be best friends with Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph, Cheri O'Teri, Molly Shannon, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (which still hasn't changed). They opened my eyes to "truth through humor". You could cover the news and voice your opinion at the same time without hurting people. You could be a woman and still be the funniest person in the room. Sketches like "The Spartan Cheerleaders", "Debbie Downer" and "Mango" became staples in my everyday language, and to be honest, still are.
Saturday Night Live and I were on the same page during this era. We were in our prime. But I won't say that this was my favorite era. SNL, much like myself, has gone through phases. This was a great time, but that doesn't mean it was the "best". They are killing it again RIGHT NOW with the current cast and writers. I think I'm starting to hit my stride again too, but it took building years to get here, for both of us. Maybe that's just life. Ups and downs, highs and lows, and laughing through the learning phases.
I cant wait to watch my new favorite, Leslie Jones, team up with one of my old favorites, Will Ferrell, this weekend...because I know I could sure use more cowbell! And LESDOGGG as HARRY CARAY...YES!!
What was your favorite SNL era?
Below is my favorite Will Ferrell...with the GOAT, Garth!!!
