Some of the ways our state is helping out in Florida.

Mississippi is stepping up its involvement in Hurricane Irma recovery efforts in Florida. Two heavy-lift helicopters from a National Guard unit in Meridian are in the Sunshine State now to help transport emergency supplies to the hard-hit Florida Keys. A five-member incident-management assistance team from Harrison County is in the Keys and two other teams are on standby. Search-and-rescue teams from Mississippi have already pulled about a dozen people out of floodwaters in the Jacksonville area. And National Guard bases in Gulfport and Flowood are handling hurricane-relief flights from across the country.
