ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – St. Pete Police say a family dog bit an 18-month-old boy in the face.

It happened just before 7 p.m. at a hotel on the 2300 block of Ulmerton Road.

Police say a couple staying there reported that their family dog, an 11-year-old female husky mix breed, bit their son in the face. The child has been admitted to All Children's Hospital in stable condition, police said, but has significant facial wounds.

The dog has been place in the custody of Pinellas County Animal Control.

Police say the family is from Massachusetts and in the process of purchasing a home in the area. They report that the dog is a long time family pet and has never shown any aggressive behavior towards the child before this incident, police said.
